Guys, we’re in the midst of a phenomenon. The phenomenon known as the belted scarf. It’s a force to be reckoned with! Need proof? Ohhh, I have proof!
Entering into the 30 for 30 I knew I wanted try this trend. Clearly I love belts and scarves so it should be easy, right? Wrong. Friends, I’m a hippy girl. No, not in a bohemian 70's way. More like in a Shakira kinda way. It’s just the simple truth. No matter how many days I work out, or miles I run, I have hips. And these hips, they don’t lie.
I tried to put the belted scarf into action on days 1, 13 and 15, but I just couldn’t do it. Being a hippy girl you learn certain tricks over time. And these tricks, well, they’re sacred.
So when I had to belt over, not under AND add more fabric to the mix, I was
Actually if you follow me on the twitter, you may have noticed some of my hot mess paranoia tweets. Admittedly, I was nervous most of the day. Debuting the belted scarf with a form fitting sweater dress was definitely out of my comfort zone. But all was {is} good. By the end of the day I received the fashion stamp of approval from my co-workers {they know about the challenge – I can’t keep a secret}. And looking at it now, I think it just may be my favorite of the challenge.
I think you did a great job rocking the belted scarf. In no way do you look hippy to my eyes.

This looks really good! I've been wanting to try this too, but like you I'm a hippy girl and a chesty one so I fear what it's going to look like on me. You're giving me hope though so maybe I'll have to try it...
ReplyDeleteLiz -- You're adorable. I think your hashtag on twitter should have been #scarvesdontlie.
ReplyDeleteThat color is BEAUTIFUL on you!
Looks lovely, I really like the choice of the scarf AND the belt you used. I gave it a whirl for the first time the other day, too. Let me know what you think if you get the chance.
ReplyDeleteOh, and love your hair like that too.
It looks great on you! I love the belted scarf look. I had tried it out a few times before the 30 for 30, but it wasn't until Outfit 20 that I actually got around to wearing it. I think it's just been too warm for scarves here in Virginia Beach. (BTW, I went to Virginia Tech to answer your question from last night's comment.) I love your outfits that incorporate some hue of pink or burgundy like this one. I'm sure you know by now that pink cardigan is my favorite 30 for 30 piece of yours. :) I bet you could belt this scarf with that cardi, too! It's a gorgeous scarf, and you look really cute!!

Thanks Lisa! I stopped by Virginia Tech while I was a consultant during a visit to Radford. Since they didn't have a traditional sorority house they wanted to show me Tech's. It's a beautiful campus!
ReplyDeleteThanks lady!
ReplyDeleteI loooove your ruffled scarf! I think it looks awesome belted :)
ReplyDeleteIt is nerve-wrecking trying new things... but you'll never push your personal style unless you do. And you look totally cute!

Seriously, Liz, you are my favorite! I have the same problem, my hips are the biggest part of my body but I have learned how to hide it really well with my clothes. I too want to pull off the whole scarf belt thing and haven't been able to do it- I look like a pear! You have inspired me though, and I'm going to try it before the challenge is over! Have a nice weekend :)
ReplyDeleteKate - keep trying. Clearly, it took me a couple times to find the right combination, but it definitely can be done.
ReplyDeleteI don't know what you're talking about. You look great. You have a perfect hourglass shape that a lot of girls would kill for.
ReplyDeleteOhh I love this outfit! I think it might be one of my favorites :) It inspires me to try out the new trend!
ReplyDeleteSo cute! I laughed when I saw this because I took the belted scarf plunge today, too! I worry more about my boobs looking ginormous...

Hi Liz- New reader here, and I'm loving your style!! This scarf here looks great! You should totally not hesitate to show off your figure!

I don't think you look hippy at all! I admit it looks different on girls with hips and big chests (I don't know if I'll try it again because I felt like I had boob curtains all day or something), but it still looks great. You really pulled it off well! My first attempt was a fail, but I think you look goregrous as always!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on stepping out of your comfort zone! You look absolutely fabulous.

ReplyDeleteSuper cute - love your scarf! I've been doing the belted scarf thing too... a great way to switch things up.
ReplyDeletei think it looks great on you!! i love the floral print of that scarf and the color combo of the whole ensemble!!! and i'm jealous of your hip-action. mine are non-existent.
ReplyDeleteIt definitely took me a couple of tries before I found the right scarf + outfit. I thought the belted scarf would be something I could just whip up without trying - but I was wrong.
ReplyDeleteI think you pulled it off really well! {that's why I linked you of course}
Who knew the belted scarf could be soo tricky! Glad we both were able to take the plunge!
ReplyDeleteOK... moment of remix freak out! WEEEEEEEEEEE! I LOVE THIS!! Oh you look gorgeous - from head to toe. Love the way you did belted scarf look!
ReplyDeleteLove your hair in a braid like that- looks great!
ReplyDeleteI just discovered your blog via Elaine's (clothedmuch) broken rules series. I love this look, and being a hippy girl myself, I know what you mean about those scared rules! I think this worked wonderfully -so glad you posted it!
