Summerizing

Wearing a skirt made of wool during 90 degree weather may have not been my best decision. But after scooping this up during a big JCrew sale a few weeks ago, I couldn't wait until next fall to wear it. And honestly I wasn't THAT hot in the skirt {so long as I stayed seated at my desk in the comfort of my air conditioned office}.

We talk a lot about winterizing spring/summer clothes, but what about summerizing {not to be confused with summarizing} winter ones? Any tips? Or am I a weirdo for trying to pull off a winter skirt in June?

  1. I think you summerized this wool skirt very well, Liz!  I am in love with your yellow shoes! Super hot!

  3. A good silk slip would probably help keep you cool while wearing it. I love the rich dark colour of it.

  5. I would have never known it was a winter wool skirt from the pictures, you look so perfectly summery! I guess that means your "summerizing" was a success! The only tip I can think of is to stay in the AC as long as you can!

  6. You look great! Though honestly I would never summerize winter clothes cause it's too hot to do that here.

  7. Oh man I know what you mean... i keep making the mistake of wearing polyester in this heat.  I love how this outfit turned out and I say go for it about wearing wool in the summer. I will probably wear one of my wool j. crew skirts at some point this summer because I love them too much to wait till fall to wear them again!

  9. I am with Anna, can we get some hair tips?  Do you tease it to get the volume?  You look really super amazing here Liz, so who the heck cares if the skirt is made of wool.  Okay I guess your sweaty butt cares but we can't see that so...lookin' GOOD.

  10. I totally have to summerize my winter wardrobe.  It gets so cold in my office building that I usually can't even wear short sleeves.  Basically my summer wardrobe consists of 3/4 sleeves instead of long sleeves.  I try to throw in a little summery color and that's about it!  :)  Love this outfit, you look fab!

  11. Oh no!  I don't think you are a weirdo.  I wore a leather vest yesterday in 90 degrees after all . . .  And wool skirts are tricky because of the length and the fabric.  Looks great though!

  12. You are so rocking that wool skirt, I especially like how you added the yellow flats for a pop of color! It's a very nice touch!

  13. Gorgeous!  I love the bridge background, but most of all, I love that outfit!  I'm such a sucker for a pencil skirt (we both are!) so of course I love it!

  16. The yellow pumps are gorgeous!  I actually have a lot of clothes I wear year round because of AC.  Worst invention ever... Cardigans, light jackets, tank tops...anything that can be layered qualifies for all year wear.  I start stripping off layers the minute I step out of work.  Black seems to be the only thing I try to avoid in the summer.

  17. I love your summerizing. As long as you are not uncomfortable, there are NO RULES! You are making me want to wear my shoes that are that color.  inspiration!

  19. It's hard to deny these Jcrew skirts. They're just too fabulous for seasonal wear.

  20. My only tip is to be born with an ungodly amount of hair. Seriously, this is no teasing and minimal hairstyle. Liz just has a lot of hair.

  21. I think it's harder to summerize clothes because they're so hot, but it's easy to winterize pieces with layers.

I do think you look fantastic and I LOVE those yellow shoes!

  22. I LOVE this skirt.  You and I are total suckers for a good pencil skirt! My tip for wearing my winter skirts in the summer is just to suck it up and be hot haha, at least that's the best I've come up with.  I have an adorable Limited skirt that's so hot, but I wear it in the summer because I love it!  Keep the top loose and thin and sleeveless or short sleeved at least!  You look adorable Liz!

  23. I don't think it seems too winterish. I am always trying to summerize winter things since I like more cold weather clothes but live in the south where it's mostly hell hot!

  24. I tried to wear a pair of cropped wool trousers this morning, but then I just imagined the car ride home....

You "summerized" this so well! It doesn't even look like a wool skirt, I love it!

super cute outfit! currently got the same issues. All my winter favorites feel so neglected in my closet already and it suddenly seems like I have nothing to wear, even though my summer selection is quite big. Wear as little amount of layers as possible. That's what i try!

  28. Thanks Kate! I'm a little jealous of your 50 degree weather. Although I think the perfect medium would be 75.

  29. Thanks Kinsey! We definitely are pencil skirt fanatics :) Glad I'm not the only one who can't ignore their winter skirts.
