Snug Factor

Yesterday I mentioned that my skirt was a bit snug. Nothing unbearable, but snug nonetheless. Perhaps it’s worth noting that there is a thin line between snug and suffocating. These pants, well, they most certainly fall in the suffocating category. Let me just be upfront about it, I am terrible at getting rid of clothes that don’t fit. What if I lose weight? What if I gain weight? What if I wear spanx? All of these options are quite possible, so I’m hesitant to throw anything away that may be a size too small/big. In order to get away with wearing {and the ability to breathe} these pants all day, I made the conscious decision to layer the ba-jesus out of this outfit. You see, with the appropriate amount of layers, I can get away with wearing these pants unbuttoned. Yep, that’s my secret. Unbuttoned pants.

If I have learned anything from the never ending pregnancies of my co-workers {can you say baby boom?}, it’s that unbuttoned pants can be a life saver. Apparently this is common knowledge in pregnancy circles, but I have stolen their secret and taken it for my own. See a cami + shirt + layering piece can get you at least an extra inch in the waist. So go forth {if you're a hoader like me} to your closet and test it for your self.

  3. Okay, I'll just say it. You're awesome. I have a pair of jeans that I busted the zipper on, and I haven't been able to part with them so I wear long shirts over them, too. THANK YOU for letting me feel like I can hold my head up now

  4. I have problems throwing away my clothing that is snug too! I always feel like I will lose the weight and can wear them again, but normally I end up buying new clothes instead! You need to add me on twitter girl!!! It's @afashionfix

  8. Love the scarf! And do you do the rubber-band-through-the-button-hole-and-hooked-to-the-button-trick to keep them from unzipping?! That's a good trick I learned. :) You look great, never woulda known the pants weren't buttoned.

  9. Liz, you are the greatest. You make work wear look SO GOOD. I kind of wish I had a real job. And pointy shoes really do wonders with wide leg pants!

  14. Seriously, I work in a baby vacuum. It's almost as if they hired me so they could start procreating.

  15. The trick for me is the cami. It's the pants stay in place. You could also use the tip Jewelscapes suggested {it works great on jeans!}

  20. LOL! The zipper on the pair of pants I wore to work today won't stay up so I made sure to layer as well and wore an extra long cami to avoid a lovely embarrassing moment with co-workers (& clients..eek!). : )

  26. Girl, I am so with you! I cannot let go of clothes that are justateenybit too small or too large. I should try the unbuttoned pant thing--goodness knows half my dress pants don't button as it is!

    btw, you look really great. The pants don't look snug! Love the belt and scarf!

  27. I have a bad habit of hanging on to ill-fitted clothing.

    That scarf is too cute. Love the colors!

  28. i often have the same problem... it might fit one day... that's the death of my closet. I hate it. Moving on, I don't think these pants fall into the suffocating category at all - they look quite nice!

  29. i love how you've tied your scarf and your belt.

  30. Three out of the six ladies in my lab just had kids, so there was a lot of pregnancy up in my face lately. This post is awesome, and the pants totally look like a good fit on you. I don't do this with pants, since I haven't worn any pants that don't have elastic in quite a while (although my co-worker did think I was wearing real pants when I pulled out the yoga pants one day), but I will totally do this with dresses/skirts if I'm worried that I might break a fragile zipper.

  31. My friend/colleague just mentioned yesterday that she was using the same method... pants unbuttoned with a cami and another layer!

  32. I have done that before.

    I have also started my day with my pants buttoned but at a restaurant, I couldn't take it anymore and unbuttoned my pants while still sitting at the table. I tried to be covert so nobody saw me but if someone did, they can consider it a win. (I consider it a win seeing a car put on it's headlights but nowadays all the cars have automatic lights or lights all the time and it is nowhere near as fun.)
