Something about this outfit feels a bit off. Perhaps the summery gray skirt paired with bolder winter colors? Or maybe the fact that this skirt hasn't seen the outside world in over 4 years? Or maybe {just maybe} it's because I only had about 5 hours of sleep last night?

Apparently it only takes 2 long holiday weekends for my sleep cycle to revert to college tendencies. College tendencies being late nights, impromptu parties and hardly any sleep. Yes, there was a party last night. A spontaneous 10pm cleaning party that is. Let's just say my apartment and I got together and decided it was time for a little Lady Gaga and some vacuuming. Lysol may also have been involved. Oh and hey, if you don't mind, let's not mention the vacuuming part to my college self. She might think I've turned into my mother.

  1. I really like this outfit, actually! The skirt is unexpected, but the look is really classic, still. You sound like me, partying with your vacuum and lysol at 10:00. My college self would also be disappointed, though. I liked her. I don't want to upset her!

  2. I liked that you paired that skirt with your top pieces today, it adds some unexpected flair! ps: you always have great hair in your pictures, you should give us a run down of what products you use!

  3. I found your blog yesterday via Elaine at Clothed Much. I'm starting to embrace remixing and having so much fun with it, especially getting ideas online and finding similar pieces in my closet. I have this skirt too and don't think I've taken it off the hanger in years, but I like how you've mixed it in with darks and jewel tones in your top and boots. I think I'll give it a try - if it still fits me!

  4. Ha! I thought I was the only one who is afflicted with random bouts of cleaning. It's 9:30 at night and I simply cannot go on without cleaning every mirror in the house. Meanwhile the cat is yawning, rather pointedly, at me.

Cleaning aside, I like the way your belt and boots pop out in this outfit. It takes them from working accessories to awesome little touches.

  5. Love this. You really rock the belted waist look. Most of the time when I do that it makes me look pretty shapeless, which is the complete opposite of what it's supposed to do, right? Sometimes I feel weird pairing different "seasons" together, but then I think that dressing for seasons is so silly in the first place. You look adorable!

    Kristine. Or Polly.

  6. i'm kind of surprised (actually, very surprised) at how domestic i've become. i have always been fairly neat, but i didn't think i'd become the type of person who legitimately got excited at getting my entire house clean in one night.

as far as your outfit goes, i like the gray skirt. of course, gray is one of my favorite colors to wear so perhaps my opinion in this matter is a bit biased.

  7. I don't think there is anything off about this outfit at all! It is so cute, I freaking love the belt. My sleep was thrown off too by the long weekend!!

  8. My college self would actually vacuum and clean late at night. Half the time it was to annoy the neighbors below for being too loud and half the time it was because I didn't want to write a paper.

I think it looks great and the blouse is so pretty!

  9. I've regressed to college tendencies too! It's like a holiday induced identity crisis. Up way too late on facebook (really?) and then re-organizing my entire closet. All of these wild nights made me wake up with the flu, so ditch the college girl and take care of yourself! Hope the day isn't too painful for you!

    Loving the emerald cardigan!

  13. 21 year old Liz may have had more fun, but I think 26 year old Liz is the better dresser.

  14. I was worried mine wouldn't fit me either (it's an oldie), even though it was a bit tight the looser top and cardigan helped to balance it all out.

  15. Girl I love me some belts. They are by far my favorite accessory. It's to the point where I almost want to belt my pjs (almost).

  16. I'm a night person by nature so it doesn't take much to change my schedule, but thankfully I'm almost back to normal.

  18. Hooray!!! I could HUG you! I've seen that leopard belt on other blogs, and I loved it. I clicked on your photo from Clothes Much, and look! You told me where to buy the belt! I bought 2 sizes so I can wear it at my natural waist and with my lower pants :) Thank you!!!!
I love the layers & color mixes, by the way.

  20. I definitely recognized the gray and fabric and knew the skirt was from Express. What does that say about me?
Question: Is that one of their dry clean only skirts or is it machine wash?
