It’s been a long time since I planned a first day of school outfit. What does one wear as a working professional/student?

Back in college my go-to outfit consist of elastic waist band sweat pants and sorority t-shirts. I can’t be sure, but I don’t think that would be fly for grad school. I opted to go simple vs. overboard. This is shirt is one of three I picked up on super duper clearance this weekend at Gap.

This girl loves a good sale!

  1. Hope your first day is marvelous!  You always look so pretty in pink--it was a good color to choose!

  2. Good luck on your first day! You picked a great ensemble for balancing those two worlds. As a professional student, I know it's a weird adjustment and a tough sartorial balance, but I think this is much better than sweats-and-tees!

  3. Happy first day of school!!  Perfect simple but confident outfit.  I first found style blogs (Tania's) b/c I was getting ready for grad school and didn't know how to dress, so this is a sentimental post for me :)  And an annoying post for me in that I missed Gap clearance this weekend.

  4. Break a leg! But this looks good. I think grad student style has so much to do with what your discipline is, the type of program you're in, and if you have a job or not. I was wayyyyy less professional looking as a humanities TA for a large lecture hall class at Big State U than you are here. I actually had an office job before I went to grad school and I got rid of most of my button-up Ann Taylor blouses because I knew academia allowed for more sartorial flexibility.  The only thing that I purchased in that era specifically for office wear that has stayed with me and proved versatile and flattering is the black tulip-shaped wool/silk blend skirt I wore yesterday.

  7. I used to wear a pair of jeans and a tee to uni ALL the time! And mind you... this was just a couple of months ago haha.

  8. Great first day of grad school outfit. While there are days I wish I could still just throw on my TBPs and sweatshirt, I am glad to be past the college-fashion stage of life. :)

  11. I love your flats and the sneaky little polka-dots on your blouse.  I'll bet you were the best dressed one in the room.
